I believe all businesses, no matter how small, can play a positive role in supporting their local communities above and beyond their daily business. Over the last ten years I have provided over 1,500 hours of volunteer time to support charities, voluntary and community sector groups, social enterprises and non-profits. This has been in the form of probono work to help non-profit groups on specific assignments (project business planning, community consultation, funding reviews and grant application support), as well as mentoring and free training sessions (how to develop great funding bids and project business planning).
I was involved with the Business In The Community’s Pro-Help initiative for a number of years and chaired the Nottinghamshire group of SMEs for two years. Furthermore, I was an active East Midlands Business Champion, and Steering Group member, providing non-profit groups with mentoring and organisational support.
I strongly believe businesses can do more to help young people become equipped for the world of work – whether that be through information, advice and guidance, or through mentoring and work experience opportunities. I have given careers presentations to my former University and School and I have signed up to provide further assistance to school students via the Careers Enterprise Company.
Chimera Consulting supports at least one charity each year with a dedicated number of days of free consultancy support. In 2020 I have been supporting the Derventio Housing Trust which provides an excellent range of support to homeless people in Derby and its surrounding areas.
